Tradisjonen g\u00e5r tilbake til 1854 etter at dogma om jomfru Marias uplettede unnfangelse ble erkl\u00e6rt. Blomstene av mai er da ogs\u00e5 blomstene av Maria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Samtidig er Flores de Mayo ogs\u00e5 knyttet til en spesiell fargerik religi\u00f8s og historisk seremoni &nbsp;\u00abSantacruzan\u00bb som forestiller den hellige Helenas oppdagelse av det hellige kors hvor kvinner g\u00e5r i prosesjon og forestiller figurer som Ruth og Naomi, Judith, Dronning av Saba, Kleopatra, keiserinne Helena, og mange Maria-figurer&nbsp;som dronning av rosenkransen, dronning av h\u00e5p, dronning av jomfruer, dronning av lys, dronning av blomser o.l.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosesjonen begynte i St. Paul kirke og gikk en runde i gatene f\u00f8r den var tilbake i kirken med rosenkrans, Salve regina og messe.
