Caritas Sunday 2025
Dear Parish,
This Sunday we celebrate Caritas Sunday, and we are reminded of the Church’s call to charity and solidarity.
In today’s reading we hear of the rich man who lived in abundance, and of Lazarus who hungered at his gate. Amos cries out against those who live comfortably and without worry while others suffer. Saint Paul exhorts us to “pursue righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness” (1 Tim 6:11). These readings summon us to recognize the sufferings of others and to offer our help to those in need.
Caritas is the Catholic Church’s own charitable humanitarian aid organization. Through Caritas, we work daily to help the poor and the marginalized. As part of the Church, Caritas reaches out to people in need, both here in Norway and in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.
- In Norway, Caritas offers language courses and employment guidance such as job search courses for labor migrants and refugees.
- Internationally, Caritas works in crisis areas to provide food, clean water, and medical assistance to those affected by war and natural disasters.
- In the long term, Caritas strengthens local communities through education, food security, and initiatives that enable families to support themselves and stand on their own feet.
Caritas does this in the name of the entire Church – and thus also in your name.
Therefore, we invite you today to support Caritas – not merely with a one-time gift, we urge all Catholics to become regular supporters and givers of Caritas. In this way, we stand together in a long-term mission for justice, peace, and hope.
Together, we are a Church that recognizes the world’s suffering – and that acts.
Thank you for your support.
