This autumn St. Johannes Catholic Bible school opens at Marias Minde in Sandviken.. The school offers studies in Catholic belief & practice & basic training in children & young people’s catechises or in parish finance & administration. It is possible to hand in palm branches from last year’s Palm Sunday to the parish office or the sacristy until 13th February. They will be burnt & the ash used for the ash crosses on Ash Wednesday.

Lent begins in 14th February. Ash Wednesday masses will be in Filippino at 5pm, in Polish at 6 pm & in Norwegian at 7 pm. During Lent stations of the cross will be on Fridays at 6.30 pm  except when there is mass in Polish when they will be at 6.30 pm.

Youth worker Maria Krakus invites all young people over 16 years of age to take part in a Lenten retreat with Franciscan father Hallvard Hole from 16th to 18th February. See the notice board for more information.

Katolsk forum’s next talk is on Tuesday 20th Feb. in the school staff room at 7.45pm. Sylfest Lomheim, professor of languages at the University of Agder & former director of the  Language Council of Norway will give a talk entitled “Biblical language in our everyday language”. Everyone is welcome.

Father Rory Mulligan will be holding a Lenten retreat at Marias Minde from 8th to 11th March. The subject is “Mary, a model for us disciples”. Everyone is welcome. A new marriage course will begin on 12th February in the staff room at St. Paul school & will go over the next 5 Mondays. Anyone wanting a Catholic marriage must complete one of these courses. Enrollment  at the parish office.
